NIAF Scholarship – Performing Arts Management

NIAF TO AWARD A FULL-TUITION SCHOLARSHIP AT  ACCADEMIA TEATRO ALLA SCALA IN MILAN,ITALY

The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) offers a full-tuition scholarship in Performing Arts Management. This scholarship is offered in partnership with Accademia Teatro alla Scala, one of the most renowned institutions for training professionals in the performing arts, and Politecnico di Milano Graduate School of Business (MIP), an internationally recognized management school. The full-tuition scholarship of 13,500 euros (approximately $14,500) will be awarded to an Italian American graduate student who is seeking a Master’s Degree in Performing Arts Management.

September 11 – 2pm – Sundays at the Center – Lecture by Laurence DiStasi
On Sunday September 11, 2016, Lawrence DiStasi will present a lecture on his new book “Branded”, How Italian immigrants became enemies during World War Two. This is a thoroughly documented account of restrictions, internments, and evacuations of Italian immigrants during World War Two.  Mr. DiStasi has written several books on the Italian American experience in the United States.

The Lecture will start at 2 pm on September 11, 2016. There is a nominal charge of $5.00 for members and $10.00 for non-members. Seating will be limited to 45 people and reservations are required. No phone reservations will be accepted. There will be a reservation form in the September/October Mosaico.

Italian Language Camp for Youth

Summer Language Camp for Youth – VIVA L’ITALIANO!

Dr. Joli Love, Associate Professor of Italian at Harding University offers two one week language camps for children. This camp is an immersion language experience for youth ages 7-17 years.

June 13 ~ 17 (recommended for ages 7–12 yrs)
June 20 ~ 24 (recommended for ages 13–17 yrs)

Youth will be at all times supervised by two adults and a camp counselor. Awards and surprise prizes will be conferred during Friday’s Final show presentation and potluck lunch hour.

April 18, 2016, 6 pm – Basilicata Dinner at St. Rose Parish Hall, 320 Tenth St. Santa Rosa. Dinner will honor the region of Basilicata in southern Italy. The menu reflects the food of the region with a salami, cheese, bread and vegetable platter, pasta with pork ragu, mixed vegetables, salad and dessert. Doors open at 5:00 pm – Dinner at 6:00 pm.
$15 – Members , $17 – Guests,  $12 Teens – 13–18, $ 8 – Child 5–12, Free – Child under 5.

April 22, 2016, 7–9 pm – Italian Wine School begins with Wine 101. NBICF Board Director Mark DeVincenzi, Sommelier and Certified Wine Educator, will uncork the secrets of Italian wine in a 6-class Series starting with Wine 101 on April 22. Italian wine series: May 6, 13, 20 and June 3, 10, 2016, 7:00 to 9:00 PM. For detailed information about the curriculum & registration instructions, look for Wine School in the March-April NewsletterThe deadline to register has been extended to  April 9.

Italian Film Series at SRJC Petaluma

Italian Film Series at SRJC Petaluma Campus

Want to learn conversational Italian through beautiful films? The ever-popular Italian Film Series returns to SRJC Petaluma this Spring.  The film series will be bundled into Caterina Labriola’s conversational Italian class (ITAL 50A, section 6072starting at 6pm on Feb 23.  To enroll in the class, please visit the Schedule of Classes at www.santarosa.edu.  

In addition, all films are open to the public and have English subtitles. Individual tickets can be purchased the night of each of three Friday shows: 3/11  (La Prima Cosa Bella), 4/8 (L’Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio), 4/29 (Cinema Paradiso).  Time: 6 pm-9 pm – General Admission: $5, Seniors & Students: $4.  Click here to view the event poster providing a summary of each film.  

NBICF Scholarships for Spring 2016

NBICF Santa Rosa Junior College Spring Semester Scholarship Program

Since the NBICF Scholarship Program was established in 1986, more than $100,000 has been awarded. For the 2016 Spring Semester, we are pleased to offer seven scholarships to qualified students at Santa Rosa Junior College:

  • Marianne Pedroncelli Scholarship to a student whose academic pursuits have a direct link to Italy or the Italo-American experience, either past or present.
  • Jeannette Mancini Mitchell Scholarship to a future educator with a course in Italian or an Italy Study Abroad experience. 
  • Five NBICF Scholarships to students enrolled in Italian language classes. Consideration will be given to current NBICF members and members of their immediate family.
