NBICF Upcoming Events in August, September, October 2015

The following represent our continuing effort to schedule a variety of events with an Italian theme geared to the many interests of our community. 

Monday, August 17 – Winemaker Dinner at Riviera Ristorante with Trecini Wines  This gala event dedicated to the Jeanette Mancini Mitchell Scholarship Fund SOLD OUT EARLY. Watch for future Winemaker Dinners & reserve early

Wednesday, August 19, 6-8 pm – Travel Seminar at Italian Cultural Center

Sunday, August 23,  2 pm – Ben Slavin Concert at Italian Cultural Center 
Come for an afternoon of music by Ben Slavin, an American musician who lives in Naples. Ben is an American folk singer who performs songs about Naples from the point of view of an American ex-patriot. Ben’s songs will give us an inside look into a metropolis which boasts a 3000 year history. Ben sings in English but may also sing in the Napoletano dialect. Seating is limited to 25 – reserve by calling the Center at 707-591-9696. 

Sunday, August 30,  2 pm – Movie at the Center – Bitter Rice, Riso Amaro, a 1949 Italian Classic. Francesca & Walter are two-bit criminals in Northern Italy. In an effort to avoid police, Francesca joins a group of rice workers in the South. Doors open at 2 pm, film at 2:30.

Saturday, September 19, 1-5 pm – Painting Italy Workshop at the Center – $35 – includes instruction, a canvas to take home, use of brushes & paints, plus snacks & drinks. No experience necessary. To enroll, email Susan Terracina Adler by August 19 at adler@sonic.net

June 15 – Father’s Day Dinner at St. Rose Parish Hall 

  • Monday, June 15, 5:00 pm – Monthly Dinner at St. Rose Parish Hall Dining Room, 398 10th Street, Santa Rosa. June’s dinner is a Father’s Day celebration with a menu highlighting the Region of Le Marche located in the central area of Italy. 
  • Come for a wonderful meal of antipasti, salad, grilled meats & pasta with herbs & sundried tomatoes and dessert.  Doors open at 5:00 pm; dinner at 6:00 pm. 
  • Members are asked to bring a photo of their father or grandfather to be displayed. Everyone who brings a photo will receive one free raffle ticket. 
  • $14 for members, $16 guests; $8 teens 13-18; $5 for children 5-12; under 5 freeSee current newsletter Mosaico Culturale for dinner reservation forms.

June 26 at 6:00 pm – CENA e CINEMA at the Center

  • Friday night dinner & movie at the Center. The Mangiamo Committee has teamed with Sunday at the Center’s Diane McCurdy to bring you an informal sit-down deal that includes salad, main course, dessert & wine, plus a movie.
  • We will be showing Love is All You Need with Pierce Brosnan as a widower attending his son’s wedding in Italy – a heartwarming story of acceptance & love.
  • To reserve, send your check for $20 to NBICF, 64 Brookwood, SR 95404 by June 19. Space limited to 25 so reserve early.

July 15 – 6:00-9:00 pm –  PIZZA e BIRRA e VINO

  • Third Annual PIZZA E BIRRA Night at the Center.  Join friends & family for an “all-you-can-eat” pizza night with food generously provided by Rosso’s Pizzeria and beer donated by Total Beverage SolutionsThis year, complimentary wine will be served.
  • Also showing indoors, the movie Summertime with Katharine Hepburn & Rossano Brazzi.
  • Reserve early (50 guest limit)$25 members; $28 non-members. Send check to NBICF, 64 Broodwood, SR 95404 by July 5.

August 17 – 5:30 pm –  Winemaker Dinner at Riviera Ristorante with Wine Pairings by Trecini Winery

SAVE THIS DATEThis event is a special fundraiser dedicated to the Jeanette Mancini Mitchell SRJC Scholarship for Future Educators.  A flyer was distributed at the May Dinner with tentative menu & wine pairings. More information will be presented at the June 15 dinner and a flyer & reservation form will accompany the July Newsletter.

Human Capital – NBICF Film Fundraiser – April 2

HUMAN CAPITAL – NBICF FILM FUNDRAISER – APRIL 2nd  

A special filming of the award-winning Italian film HUMAN CAPITAL (original title Il capitale umano), April 2nd, 6:45 pm, Summerfield Theater, reception / light refreshments 6:00-6:45 pm sponsored by NBICF – tickets $10. Call NBICF (707-591-9696) to reserve will-call tickets or check for times to purchase or pick up tickets at the Center. NBICF host available at theater at 6:00 pm for will-call and, if movie not sold out, tickets for purchase by cash or check.  Human Capital will be showing at the Summerfield through April 9. 

Winner not only of the prestigious Donatello award, Italy’s equivalent to the Oscar, but also of many other international awards. Human Capital delineates the modern rush to attain happiness through money and power. This electrifying murder mystery intertwines the destinies of several characters. It is a sharp socioeconomic critique but does not neglect to epitomize the humanity of the participants involved. Movie Rating: R

NBICF is celebrating its 30th Anniversary as a co-sponsor of the Italian Rootstock Festival. A full day of family fun filled with local Italian artisan ambiance with Italian food, Italian folk music and dancing, silent auction and raffle with donation items for Italian Education, face-painting, game area for kids, wine tasting, beer tasting, coffee, espresso, juice bar, Gelato, shopping and gift items, pizza making, and bocce ball games. Rummage Sale – August 23

Rummage Sale Fundraiser – Saturday, August 23, 10 AM – 3 PM

Our 2nd Annual Rummage Sale will be held at the Italian Cultural Center, 64 Brookwood Avenue in the parking lot on Chinn Street. Members and friends are encouraged to drop off clothes, kitchen items, books, tools, CDs & DVDs, purses, jewelry, etc. Drop off dates are Tuesday, August 19th, Thursday, August 21st and Friday, August 22 from 1-4 PM each day. 

This year we will also sell biscotti & coffee to visitors. Cookies to sell are needed, as well. For more information or if you would like to volunteer, please call the Center at 707-591-9696. For a flyer to give to your friends & family, click here.

This fundraiser supports NBICF’s Scholarship program for SRJC students studying Italian and Cultural Events at our Center.
