Carnevale Celebration/Beginning Italian Classes/Volunteers Needed

Carnevale – February 20, 2017 at St. Rose Parish Hall 

Dinner prepared by The Pasta King, Arturo Ibleto, with entertainment by Carlo Solivan. Reservations and payment must be received by Monday, February 13, 2017.
At Carnevale, NBICF will introduce the winner of the Trip to Italy Raffle and present a $2,000 donation to Carla Forchini for the Santa Rosa High School Italian Student Exchange Program. For a Carnevale Reservation Form, click here. 

Italian Language for Beginners

Join us for beginning level Italian classes with a focus on vocabulary and phrases useful for travelers. These classes are designed to help you gain confidence and feel more comfortable while traveling in Italy. Two classes, March 22-April 26 & May 10-31.

Calling all Volunteers

NBICF needs volunteers in several areas, especially at monthly dinners.  Contact the office at 707-591-9696 or send an email to NBICF@sonic.net to Volunteer.
Areas in need of volunteers for dinner meetings:

  • Setup – before 5pm
  • Greeting and helping guests find their tables
  • Selling raffle and/or drink tickets
  • Serving dinner and dessert
  • Clean up

NBICF Scholarships for SRJC Students

NBICF Scholarships for SRJC Students Available

The NBICF Scholarships are offered to students of Italian Language Studies in the Fall & Spring Semesters. NBICF will award three $500 scholarships to students of Italian 1, 2, 3 or 4 for the Spring Semester 2017.  Click here to view the application procedure. The deadline for applications is February 24, 2017.

The Marianne Pedroncelli Scholarship Fund was established in 1996. This scholarship of $425 will be awarded to students in any discipline in which the student’s academic pursuits have a direct link to Italy or the Italo-American experience.  Click here to view the application procedure. The deadline for applications is March 3, 2017.

The Jeanette Mancini Mitchell Scholarship Fund was established in 2014. This $700 scholarship is for future educators with a course in Italian or an Italy Study Abroad experience. Click here to view the application procedure.  The deadline for applications is March 3, 2017.

Italian Language Classes at SRJC

Italian Classes in Spring 2017 at Santa Rosa Junior College 

SRJC offers a variety of courses at different levels in the transfer credit program, as well as others in Community Education, a not-for-credit learning enrichment program.

Italian Classes at the NBICF Italian Cultural Center

For information on Italian classes at the NBICF Cultural Center, visit the Language page. NBICF offers an annual Summer Language Camp for Youth, Beginning Italian, Advanced Intermediate Conversation & Grammar class and an Italian Conversation Incontro weekly meeting at the Center. 

NIAF Scholarship – Performing Arts Management

NIAF TO AWARD A FULL-TUITION SCHOLARSHIP AT  ACCADEMIA TEATRO ALLA SCALA IN MILAN,ITALY

The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) offers a full-tuition scholarship in Performing Arts Management. This scholarship is offered in partnership with Accademia Teatro alla Scala, one of the most renowned institutions for training professionals in the performing arts, and Politecnico di Milano Graduate School of Business (MIP), an internationally recognized management school. The full-tuition scholarship of 13,500 euros (approximately $14,500) will be awarded to an Italian American graduate student who is seeking a Master’s Degree in Performing Arts Management.

Italian Language Camp for Youth

Summer Language Camp for Youth – VIVA L’ITALIANO!

Dr. Joli Love, Associate Professor of Italian at Harding University offers two one week language camps for children. This camp is an immersion language experience for youth ages 7-17 years.

June 13 ~ 17 (recommended for ages 7–12 yrs)
June 20 ~ 24 (recommended for ages 13–17 yrs)

Youth will be at all times supervised by two adults and a camp counselor. Awards and surprise prizes will be conferred during Friday’s Final show presentation and potluck lunch hour.

April 18, 2016, 6 pm – Basilicata Dinner at St. Rose Parish Hall, 320 Tenth St. Santa Rosa. Dinner will honor the region of Basilicata in southern Italy. The menu reflects the food of the region with a salami, cheese, bread and vegetable platter, pasta with pork ragu, mixed vegetables, salad and dessert. Doors open at 5:00 pm – Dinner at 6:00 pm.
$15 – Members , $17 – Guests,  $12 Teens – 13–18, $ 8 – Child 5–12, Free – Child under 5.

April 22, 2016, 7–9 pm – Italian Wine School begins with Wine 101. NBICF Board Director Mark DeVincenzi, Sommelier and Certified Wine Educator, will uncork the secrets of Italian wine in a 6-class Series starting with Wine 101 on April 22. Italian wine series: May 6, 13, 20 and June 3, 10, 2016, 7:00 to 9:00 PM. For detailed information about the curriculum & registration instructions, look for Wine School in the March-April NewsletterThe deadline to register has been extended to  April 9. 

April 24, 2016 – 2 pm – Sundays at the Center with Diane McCurdy, Movie – Garibaldi’s Lovers, (in Italian with English subtitles). No reservations necessary.

Italian Film Series at SRJC Petaluma

Italian Film Series at SRJC Petaluma Campus

Want to learn conversational Italian through beautiful films? The ever-popular Italian Film Series returns to SRJC Petaluma this Spring.  The film series will be bundled into Caterina Labriola’s conversational Italian class (ITAL 50A, section 6072starting at 6pm on Feb 23.  To enroll in the class, please visit the Schedule of Classes at www.santarosa.edu.  

In addition, all films are open to the public and have English subtitles. NBICF Santa Rosa Junior College Spring Semester Scholarship Program

Since the NBICF Scholarship Program was established in 1986, more than $100,000 has been awarded. For the 2016 Spring Semester, we are pleased to offer seven scholarships to qualified students at Santa Rosa Junior College:

  • Marianne Pedroncelli Scholarship to a student whose academic pursuits have a direct link to Italy or the Italo-American experience, either past or present.
  • Jeannette Mancini Mitchell Scholarship to a future educator with a course in Italian or an Italy Study Abroad experience. 
  • Five NBICF Scholarships to students enrolled in Italian language classes. Consideration will be given to current NBICF members and members of their immediate family.

NBICF Upcoming Events in December 2015 and January 2016

December 18 – Festa di Natale Dinner – Friday, 5:00 pm

Bring family of all ages to our annual Festa di Natale on Friday, December 18, 2015 at St. Rose Parish Hall. Coro Allegro will entertain, la Befana is coming with treats for the children and a holiday raffle is planned. Doors open at 5:00, dinner at 6:00 pm

Enjoy a scrumptious holiday meal of antipasti, New York strip steak with horseradish sauce, rosemary potatoes, winter vegetables, caesar salad and dessert. Please reserve and send payment by December 11th.
$18 Members, $20 Guests, $8 Teens, 13–18 yrs, $5 Children 5–13 yrs, free under 5

January 23 – Crab and Ceviche, Saturday, 5:00 pm

Join us for our winter fundraiser “Crab & Ceviche” on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at St. Rose Parish Hall. The crab feed is one of our major fundraisers of the year and all proceeds will benefit NBICF’s scholarships and cultural activities. The menu will include ceviche and other appetizers, pesto pasta, salad, garlic bread, All-You-Can-Eat CRAB and dessert. Doors open at 5:00, dinner at 6:00 pm.

If the quarantine on crab from the Sonoma Coast is not lifted, we will obtain crab from the North at a significantly higher price. However, if your reservation & payment is received by December 31, tickets are still just $50.

After Dec. 31, the price is $55. All reservations and payment must be received by Tuesday, January 19th. Tickets for the Crab Feed are also available by credit card on BrownPaperTickets — http://nbicfcrabfeed2016.brownpapertickets.com/
