  • We are continually working to keep members connected and informed and are thus very excited that we can now offer an online membership platform which will facilitate member communication, manage memberships, and create new membership drives. With getcommunal, members have their own profile and can renew membership, make reservations, pay for events, and explore volunteer opportunities. Notices via email (and hard copy to those without email) have gone out.
  • NBICF Dinner – Thursday, March 26, 2026 at the Veterans Building Dining Room.
    The dinner catered by Cibo Rustico Pizzeria includes:
    Antipasti • Penne Pasta, choice of pesto or marinara • Mamma Rosa’s Meatballs • Classico Caesar Salad and breadsticks • Dessert, please bring your favorite cookies to share • Wine at the table.
    Reservations required by March 20th.

  • President George Golfieri reviewed the recent Board activities focused on the long term direction of the Foundation. The membership elected Board  members for 2026. Joining the 2026 Board are Steve Albini and Diane Bourassa who serve as Treasurer. George will be leaving the Board after 11 years as President along with long time Board members Les Villanyi & Don Raimondi. 
  • NBICF Dinner – Thursday, January 22, 2026 at the Veterans Building Dining Room.  The dinner catered by Pasta King includes:
    Antipasti • Lasagna with marinara or meat sauce, salad , garlic bread and dessert with wine at the table. Reservations required by January 20.

  • President George Golfieri reviewed the recent Board activities focused on the long term direction of the Foundation. The membership will be electing Board  members for 2026.
  • George thanked the committee of board members who organized the August Pizza, Birra & Vino party which was very successful and featured in a September Press Democrat article with photos. 
  • NBICF Dinner – Friday, December 12, 2025 at the Veterans Building Dining Room

  • On Saturday November 1, 2025  NBICF participated in Sonoma County Finding History Day presented by the Sonoma County Historical Society at the Veterans Memorial Center. 
  • NBICF Website Support – The Board is seeking an NBICF member to assist in maintaining the NBICF Website. The website is built on the WordPress platform and interfaces with PayPal payments. Members interested in this opportunity can send an email to NBICF2member@gmail.com.

  • President George Golfieri reviewed the recent Board activities focused on the long term direction of the Foundation. The Board is seeking new Board  members for 2025. 
  • George described the 1989 establishment of Italian-American Heritage Month to honor the achievements of Italian immigrants and their descendants and their
    contributions in business, arts, science, and culture.  
  • NBICF Dinner – Thursday, September 25, 2025 at the Veterans Building Dining Room

  • President George Golfieri announces the appointment of Diane Bourassa to the Board of Directors and to the position of  Board Treasurer.
  • George announces the recipients of the Marianne Pedroncelli Scholarship and the Bill Mitchell and Jeanette Mancini-Mitchell Scholarship for the 2025 spring semester.
    Since 1986, the Foundation has awarded 402 scholarships totaling $142,935.
  • Article on the writing of the Declaration of Independence by Thomas Jefferson and the influence of Filippo Mazzei, a good friend of  Jefferson.

  • President George Golfieri reviewed the 2024 Foundation Financial results for 2024 and discussed the need for members to renew their membership for2025. The majority of the income to support ongoing expenses comes from the January-March Annual Membership Drive. Visit the Membership page to renew your membership or become an NBICF member. Renewal is required by March 31.
  • George also announced the recipients of The Sharie Sbrazza NBICF Florence Study Abroad Scholarship for the 2025 spring semester. Each recipient receives a $1,500 scholarship. He also reviewed the Marianne Pedroncelli Scholarship and the Bill and Jeanette Mitchell Scholarship. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded over $136,500 in scholarships for Italian studies at SRJC.
  • Article on International Women’s Day on March 8th when Italy celebrates La Festa della Donna, Italy first celebrated Women’s Day in 1922.
  • Article on La Festa di San Giuseppe – celebrated on March 19th in Italy. This holiday is celebrated with elaborate feasts and donations of food to the less fortunate.

  • Article about Quaresima (Lent) corresponds to the 40 days of fasting. It is celebrated in special ways, especially with food. The article describes the traditional foods in the various regions on Italy. 
  • Italian cultural experience for children this spring break, including culinary arts, bocce ball, Italian story time, arts and crafts, music and dancing, and more.   • April Meeting and Dinner – Friday, April 11, 2025 – Sonoma County Veterans Memorial Hall  – Polenta Dinner – Detailed menu to be available in March. Reservation form included in Newsletter. 
  • Business Member D’Argenzio Winery is starting a Bocce League. They are inviting

  • May 18, 2025 – Save the date – Lecture by Dr. Douglas Kenning on the
    80th anniversary of World War II in Italy at the NBICF Center.

Subsequent to the publishing of the Newsletter, the Board announced the following event. Carnevale 2025 – Wednesday, February 26, 2025  at the Sonoma County Veterans Memorial Dining Room – Doors open at 5:00pm, Dinner at 6:00pm. 1351 Maple Ave. Santa Rosa.   • NBICF President George Golfieri updates the membership on recent activities, provides a summary of the Foundation 2023 Financial situation and reviews the Foundation Scholarship program.  He discusses the need for more volunteers to serve on committees. Member involvement is crucial to the future of the Foundation.   • The next dinner event is scheduled for Thursday March 14 Dinner at the Santa Rosa Veterans Memorial Building, 1351 Maple Ave, Santa Rosa, CA 95404. Dinner will be prepared by Pasta King Catering. Doors open at 5 Dinner at 6 pm. Dinner includes: Antipasti, Salad, Ravioli, Chicken Fettuccine, rolls, Dessert with Wine at the Table. No outside liquor allowed.   • The winner of the Trip to Italy raffle will be announced at the March 14 Dinner at the Santa Rosa Veterans Memorial Building, 1351 Maple Ave, Santa Rosa, CA 95404. Tickets are still available. Click on this link for information on final ticket sales.  Tickets will be available at the dinner.
  •  Membership renewal notices were sent out in January. Members can pay their membership dues online by credit card or by mailing a check. A website page for annual membership renewals is available on our website at www.nbicf.org.  Please pay your dues by March 31, 2024.

  • The newsletter also describes various holiday celebrations & traditions occurring in Italy in the Spring.  For example, La Festa della Donna is celebrated on March 8. It is Italy’s celebration of International Women’s Day, recognized by the United Nations and many countries around the world. Included with this article is a list of some amazing Italian women.
